SM: So whats going on with the new music exactly? Are you going back to your roots or going some where very different than what Reign Supreme has ever been?
Very different, its like we kind of taken the whole thing we have been doing for years and expanded on it. It's defiantly still the same band, it's still very angry and the message and feeling are very similar (young and antsy) but its just a little more mature music wise because we just got kind of sick of sounding like Hatebreed and Madball. You know we just kind of branched out a little bit. There's a little more of a Converge, old Shai Hulud influence going on with some Mastodon, Isis and even Deftones feel to it as well. It's just a more uniquely us record and the record we do after this will be just as unique too we think.
SM: Philly has had a boss music scene for years now, what do you think led to that and where do you think it going towards?
It just kind of happened you know? Its a city that's just close to a lot of things, with a lot of young people and a lot of these kids go to art schools out there so that kind of gets these kids wanting to start bands.
SM: So whats going on for Reign Supreme for the rest of the year or is it the same old thing? Also whats up with This Is Hardcore Fest, are you guys doing anything special for that?
As of whats going on for the rest of the year I think we are going to California for the winter and I think next summer we're going to do a full US and European tour than a year after that we're going to Japan/Australia again. We can't tour as much as we used to because we're all in grad school, school or have full time jobs in the way but we're all still punk rock kids man! I mean so hey we're trying to do the best we can (laughs).
SM: What is your favorite track to play live and why is that?
My favorite track to play live would be the new one we have been playing, we didn't play it tonight but its called "Stuck Pig Bleed Dry". It's about a lot of hippocratcy and stuff I see in hardcore music with kids posturing and acting like something their not. I think hardcore is something to me like a stuck pig been bleed dry because of some kids or whatever. There's not enough originality, not enough free thought or free expression and I think people need to be a little more willing to challenge it a little bit and get out of the box and do something new. Well at least that's what we're trying to do.
SM: For one reason or another the music scene in New Jersey (mainly north Jersey) has died, it may be due to kids fighting at shows or just not enough interest for people to be in the scene anymore. What is one thing you think could help turn this around?
It's really hard to say. Start bands, do a website, start print zine, put bands up, do promotion and what ever you can. But if you do it just do it in the name of love and not to expect anything in return. Do it because your really meant to be here and you love it not because your trying to fit into some sort of niche. That's the only thing I think you really can do, there is no real answer to that and also hardcore cyclical! It goes up and down. For a couple of years it will be awesome with great bands and all that, then next thing you know its nothing. It's just like that, it will come around and Jersey's one of the best scenes in the country.
SM: What is the most important message you want your fans and audience to think?
You are all that matters fuck everyone else.
Check out their facebook page, snage some merch and pick up some of their tunes! Also here's a small taste of what went down at The Aquifer not too long ago ;)
